Matricide: Accused nabbed after 10 months

 

After waiting for around 10 months, Khowai Police nabbed a 26-year old youth on Tuesday late night in connection with matricide.

 

The youth, Maran Debnath hails from Chebri in Khowai. He reportedly killed his mother on February 16 last. However, Maran managed to give the Police a slip after the crime and remained fugitive.

 

Based on some clues obtained from monetary transactions, Police trace Maran at Jatrapur in Sonamura. Police led by IO Shubhendu Das rushed to Jatrapur on Tuesday and with the help of Jatrapur Police arrested him from a construction site of a building at Bhabanipur.

 

He was brought back to Khowai Police station on Tuesday late night and was produced before the Court today. The Court sent Maran Debnath to 14-day Jail remand.  

 

Partying turns fatal: 3 dead, 4 injured

 

In a shocking incident three youths died and 4 others were injured seriously by consuming acid while partying at Birbahadoor Para of  82 Mile area on Tuesday night.

Sources said that 7 youths of Birbahadoor para namely Sachinda Reang, Adhiram Reang, Babhiram Reang, Kamalabatir Reang, Bikhsaram Reang and Trina Reang were drinking liquor, however, mistakenly consumed acid.  Immediately Sachinda, Adhiram and Babhiram became seriously ill and they were taken to 82 Mile Hospital. But they were referred to Kulai District Hospital.  In such a situation they were taken to Mukunda Missionaries Hospital instead of Dhalai District Hospital.  But the three youths succumbed on the way to the hospital.

 

All the youths were in between 28 to 32 years age group. 

 

Meanwhile seriously injured Kamalabati Reang, Bikhsaram Reang,  Shibani Reang and Trina Reang have been referred to Dhalai District Hospital.  Police from Manu Police Station started an investigation of the case. A pall of gloom descended in the locality.
