Five more cadres of the banned NLFT surrendered before the Anandabazar police station under North Tripura District with sharp weapons on Friday.
With this, a total of seven NLFT cadres of Parimal Debbarma (PD) faction surrendered to the security forces during the last two days as two extremists surrendered without any arms before the Anandabazar Police on Thursday.
The five extremists who surrendered today were identified as Rambadal Tripura(40) of Surjyahampara, Swapan Tripura(16) of Ramani Kumar Para, Jalaksa Tripura (38) of Surjyahampara, Jaba Ranjan Tripura (38) of Surjyahampara and Khajendra Reang (28) of Sarpojay para. Among them, Swapan Tripura hails from Manu under Dhalai district, remaining four hail from different hamlets under Anandabazar area in North district.
After the preliminary interrogation, they revealed that they joined NLFT (PD) in Bangladesh in 2020. The cadres from their field experience realized their cause for independence of Tripura has lost its relevance. On the other hand presently NLFT facing serious financial crisis and they are feeling frustrated.
On top of that they are under the pressure of security forces. The security agencies of Tripura and Bangladesh have intensified the vigil against the banned outfit. All of these factors combined together are making the life of NLFT extremists difficult.
In view of the fund crunch, disillusionment and tight security, many of the cadres who joined the NLFT are now quitting the outfit and returning to mainstream society.
Earlier, two extremists – Hakim Rai Reang (36) and Ejamani Reang (35) – NLFT (PD) surrendered before the Police on Thursday. According to Police sources, both the cadres joined the NLFT camp in Bangladesh around 10 months ago. Finally, they have decided to return to normal life.
