Opposition Leader of Tripura and CPM Politburo member Manik Sarkar raised fingers at the Police over the alleged killing of Benu Biswas – a CPM supporter. The deceased was reportedly murdered near Kamalpur Bazar on February 11 last.
A delegation of CPM MLAs led by Opposition leader Manik Sarkar visited the residence of deceased CPM supporter Benu Biswas at Kamalpur in Belonia on Monday. Speaking to the media, Sarkar raised questions on the role of Police as no one was arrested in this case, so far.
Accompanied by deputy Opposition leader Badal Chowdhury and other CPM MLAs – Badal Chowdhury, Tapan Chakraborty, Shahid Chowdhury, Bhanu Lal Saha, Ratan Bhowmik and Sudhan Das – as well as CPM leaders, Manik Sarkar met the deceased’s family members and extended sympathy to the grieving family members. The delegates assured to stand by the side of the deceased’s family members.
Later speaking to the media, Manik Sarkar questioned the role of Police. He also alleged that total 24 CPM activists were killed after the BJP-led Government assumed power in Tripura. Sarkar also slammed the DIG in this connection.
He urged the supporters not to be cowed down and intimidated but hit streets as a united protest is the only solution to the present situation. The CPM delegates also demanded immediate arrest of the persons involved in the ‘murder’ of Benu Biswas.
Meantime, supporters of CPM held a protest rally in Belonia under South Tripura demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the alleged killing of Benu Biswas. After the rally, a public meeting was held in which leaders of different wings of the Party criticised the BJP-IPFT government on multiple issues.
