Providing drinking water facility to every household by December 2022 is the priority of the State government, said Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb while chairing a review meeting of the Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) department and Public Works Department (PWD).
In the meeting, progress of different schemes including the Jal Jeevan Mission was reviewed. Deb emphasized attaining the target of bringing every household under the Jal Jeevan Mission by December 2022.
“( I ) Asked the officials to be on their toes to achieve that goal”, he tweeted.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need to expand irrigation facility to more cultivable lands.
Drinking Water and Sanitation minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Chief Secretary Kumar Alok and other high officials remained present in the review meeting held at the civil secretariat.
Secretary Kiran Gitte informed the meeting that state government’s target was to provide free tap water connections to 7,60,052 families by December next.
While the 3,14,112 households were already provided the facility, the works were going on in full swing for providing more 1 lakh connections by March next, he said.
Gitte said in the meeting that 100 percent households of 926 hamlets were already provided water connections under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
He also said that an initiative was taken to appoint one Jal Sakhi in every village and Gram Panchayat under the Drinking Water and Sanitation department for repairing and maintenance of the source of drinking water.
The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of activities of several divisions under the PWD like Water Resources, Gram Sadak Yojana, Swachch Bharat Mission (Rural), National Highway etc.
Secretary of PWD Kiran Gitte said, there is 888.81 km long National Highway in the State. Out of this, a total of 281.028 km NH has been converted in Double lane with paved shoulder whereas length of the NH converted to double lane without paved shoulder stands at 232 km.
Gitte also highlighted progress in works of other divisions under the PWD.
