Mayor of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder reiterated that attempt to stall the development works would not be tolerated.

“The AMC is committed to make the city congestion free and work for development of Agartala. To this end, AMC will not tolerate obstacles”, the Mayor told the media prior to first meeting with all the elected councilors of the AMC on Wednesday.

The Deputy Mayor, Commission of the AMC and councilors of all the wards under the AMC attended the meeting.

Talking about the meeting Dipak Majumder said, councilors will discuss problems of their wards. Besides, discussions will be held on activities of the AMC to ensure holistic improvement of living standards of the city dwellers, Majumder said.

When asked about chaos over AMC’s eviction drives, the Mayor categorically mentioned that legitimate hawkers and vendors were not evicted. The AMC is conducting eviction drive against the vendors who have illegally encroached the government land and roads.

He continued and said, some of the individuals and some Political parties are trying to make the eviction drive of the AMC an issue. However, the AMC will not allow illegal occupation and it is committed to provide a congestion free city ensuring better services to the city people.

Notably, the AMC is continuing its eviction drive against the illegal encroachers even as the protests continue. The Mayor visited busy Battala area and held talks with the auto drivers who were using the under-the-fly-over ground as parking place. Majumder told the auto drivers to shift to nearby Nagerjala stand so that congestion could be eased at the crowed Battala area.
