The Agartala Smart City Limited (ASCL) has come up with a noble initiative to replant the mature trees in different locations with an aim of saving the trees while carrying out the developmental works.
Initiatives have been taken to make Airport Road four lanes from MBB Airport to Circuit House under the Smart City project in Agartala. This would require cutting down several trees in this stretch.
However, considering the ecological aspects, the ASCL took initiatives to save every tree during the planning and designing phase. Steps have been taken to move the matured trees and re-plant elsewhere.
In an attempt to maintain the serene greenery, the ASCL authority has also chalked out a plan for trees that could not be moved away and saved. Apart from re-plantation, the authority will carry out compensatory afforestation. This drive will be taken along with the Forest Department.
“But for those trees which could not be saved, we are doing compensatory afforestation in association with the Forest Department”, a tweet by agartalasmartcity limited read.
Speaking about the initiative, Commissioner of the Agartala Shailesh Kumar Yadav said the road expansion works are in progress along the VIP road. Moving the trees from the stretch to other places has already started and 200 trees out of the total 400 trees had been moved and replanted. On Friday, 25 trees were moved for transplantation.
These trees were being planted on both sides of the road in Lichu Bagan area, sources said.
Sources said, the ASCL is conscious about maintaining the sustainability of ecology while expanding the width of the road.
