Tripura Government has decided to set up a 5-year perspective plan in Mission mode for Pineapple and Jackfruit.
“Council of Ministers of Tripura Government has decided to set up a Tripura Pineapple and Jackfruit Mission under the Department of Industries and Commerce”, ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said in a press meet in Agartala on Tuesday.
He also said, the Tripura Pineapple and Jackfruit Mission has been undertaken for five years – the Mission will start from April 1, 2022 and continue till March 31, 2027 next. However, the duration of the Mission can further be extended after reviewing and measuring its success in achieving the objectives.
Primarily the Mission will focus processing and marketing of these fruits to push up exports of pineapple and jackfruit in other States as well as abroad, Chowdhury said.
Highlighting the budgetary estimates for the Mission, Sushanta Chowdhury said, an estimated Rs 153 crore have been earmarked for this purpose. Out of the total, the State Government will provide Rs 10 crore while remaining Rs 143 crore will be collected from convergence of funds of different agencies like Centrally Sponsored Schemes, NEC DoNER, TRLM or the Horticulture Department etc.
Besides, the Chief Secretary, Principle Secretary and the Director of Industries and Commerce Department will look after the successful implementation of the aims and objectives of the Mission.
Detailing about the objectives of the Tripura Pineapple and Jackfruit Mission, the Minister said, the Mission aims at enhancing the production and to boost economy by exporting. The Mission will provide a mechanism for fulfilling the objectives.
Pineapple and jackfruit growers will be immensely benefitted, he hoped and said proper implementation of this project would harness the demand for Tripura-grown pineapple and jackfruit and also have a positive impact in improving livelihood of the growers.
State Agriculture Minister Pranajit Singha Roy hailed the decision.
