Tension and panic erupted in Dharmanagar under North Tripura on Tuesday following rallies by the ruling BJP and Congress.
Following the violence between the two parties in Agartala on Sunday, a face-off at Dharmanagar caused the shop keepers to pull down shutters.
However, administration did not take any chance. A tight security blanket was thrown to keep the rival supporters at bay.
While addressing the gatherings, leaders of both the parties fired verbal salvos at each other. Amidst high tension, the meetings ended without any untoward incident. Law and Order situation in Dharmanagar remained normal.
Ruling BJP brought out a procession to mark the 4th anniversary of BJP-IPFT regime in Tripura and gathered on side of Kali Dighi (Lake). Deputy Speaker of Tripura Assembly Bishwabandhu Sen and other BJP leaders addressed the supporters and hit out at the Opposition Parties including the Congress.
Meantime, Congress supporters were also holding a joining programme near the BJP meeting place. In the meeting, state Congress Chief Birajit Sinha, BJP turncoat Sudip Roy Barman and other leaders were present. Addressing the supporters, Congress leaders slammed the ruling BJP on multiple issues.
Biswabandhu Sen- also the local BJP MLA – in his speech, highlighted the initiatives of the incumbent government in implementing the development works in Dharmanagar. He sought more cooperation from the locals to expedite the developmental activities. Referring to the developmental activities, Sen said Dharmanagar is an unconquerable fort of BJP. He lambasted the CPM for its ‘misrule’ during its 25 years regime as well as hammered the Congress.
Congress leaders also spewed venom at the BJP. Sudip Roy Barman came down heavily on BJP. He raised several allegations and accused BJP-led government of attempting to arrest him in fabricated and false narcotics case.
Roy Barman and other Congress leaders tried to boost up flagging morale of the Congress party workers and made claims like ousting BJP government. However, overall impact of the meeting remained uncertain as participation of local people was not noticeable. One of the senior CPM leader who was scheduled to join Congress in today’s programme, stayed away and did not turn up.
