The incumbent government believes in development, not in slogans and speeches.
Government is working to build up ‘Ek Tripura, Shresta Tripura through development, said Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma after inaugurating an Open Gym Center at Charilam Puranbari under Sepahijala district on Wednesday.
Among others, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Sushanta Chowdhury was also present in the programme.
The Deputy Chief Minister in his speech said at once sports at school level were just extra-curricular activities but now everyone has a golden opportunity to build a career through sports and for this purpose, 206 coaching centers have been set up across the state to bring up players at the school level for which a total of Rs 93 lakh has been allocated for the purchase of sports equipment.
He continued and said, the government has taken several steps to improve sports infrastructure so that players can perform better and excel at national and international arena. Dev Varma also pointed out steps have been initiated to build astroturf in several play grounds at an expenditure of Rs 5 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, Sushanta Chowdhury said inauguration of the open gym center is a part of the Chief Minister’s announcement to make the state drug free. He added that the state government believes that drugs and health cannot go hand in hand. Therefore, in order to protect the youth from drug addiction, special steps have been taken to create health awareness among the youth through various initiatives like setting up open gym center.
Today, sports equipment worth around Rs 45,000 has been distributed for a total of 35 centers in Sepahijla district.
