Four nabbed detained with ganja
A group of four women including one deaf-and-dumb woman was arrested for smuggling ganja. The women were travelling in a night super from Dharmanagar to Guwahati on Friday night.
As the bus crossed the Tripura-Assam boundary and reached Assam Police Naka-point, Police stopped the bus and conducted a search.
Sources said, two packets of ganja were found from a bag of a passenger. Immediately Police started searching bags of all the passengers and found ganja in bags of four women passengers. A total of 32 kg ganja worth Rs 3 lakh 20 thousand was seized from the possession of the four women.
The detainees were Payel Singh, Rujina Debbarma, Namita Debbarma and Mangal Laxmi Debbarma – the last one is a deaf-and-dumb person. It is reported Payel Singh of Patna, Bihar was leading the group with ganja to Guwahati. All three other women are residents of Belbari village of Radhapur in Jirania under the West Tripura District.
According to the police officials, the four women smugglers were taken to Bazarichhara police station and produced before the local court on Saturday. Police are investigating the case.
Public Rally, VC Polls: Tipra Motha holds meeting
The regional Party of Tripura and ruling party in Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), Tipra Motha held a meeting on Saturday in Agartala on the issue of an upcoming public meeting scheduled to be held on March 12 at Astabal Maidan. Apart from the public rally, the meeting also focused on other issues like polls Village Council.
The meeting was attended by Tipra Motha Chairman and MDC Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman party’s president Vijay Hrangkhawl, and others.
Pradyot Kishore Deb Barman told the media that the meeting focused on the Public Meeting which is to be held on March 12 next in support of the party’s demand for ‘Greater Tipraland’.
Commenting on the Village Council polls, Deb Barman told the reporters election of the Village Council is important for the development in District Council Areas. “If the Village Councils are not formed within March 31, the money allocated for the ADC will not available to the ADC and this will affect the developmental activities”, Pradyot Kishore said.
He expressed the view that the election of the Village Council should be held as soon as possible.
