In a horrifying incident, a 42-year-old woman of Khowai in Tripura reportedly chopped of her 50-year-old husband’s head and kept the severed head in a plastic bag hanging at their family worshipping in the intervening nights of Friday and Saturday.
The accused, Sabitri Tanti allegedly beheaded her husband Rabindra Tanti by a ‘Dao’ (a sharp-edged weapon) when the victim was sleeping late on Friday night at their home in Ramchandra Ghat in Khowai district. The couple has two minor sons – Vishal Tanti (12) and Nayan Tanti (9).
Even as Khowai District SP Bhanupada Chakraborty said reason behind the killing is yet to be ascertained, Police arrested Sabitri from couple’s residence at Indira Colony under Khowai and she was sent to 14 days Jail remand.
Speaking to the media, Vishal Tanti said his mother was worshipping Kail for the last few days. She also started speaking incoherently and claimed that Maa Kali gave her a darshan.
Meantime, Sabitri’s husband, Rabindra Tanti – a daily wage earner went to Dharmanagar in search of works on Thursday last. Vishal informed his father about psychological problems of his mother.
On Friday, Rabindra rushed to their home and called up an occultist. Sabitri told the occultist that should eat meat etc. even as Sabitri was always a vegetarian.
However, as she demand, Rabindra bought meat and along with his family members had a dinner – his last dinner.
Vishal continued and said, “I was sleeping with his father Rabindra. After all of us went to sleep, suddenly I woke up and saw my father’s blood-soaked head”.
At the sigh of the horrible scene, he ran out of his room and screamed – neighbours informed police. However, did not go inside the house until morning. Later Police arrested Sabitri and recovered the body.
A forensic team visited the spot and collected evidence of the crime.
