Ducks are providing oxygen to womenfolk’s initiatives in achieving self-reliance in Rudrasagar area under Sepahijala district.
A couple of years ago, the incumbent government launched an ambitious Duckery project to empower women belonging to the Scheduled Caste group in Rudrasagar area.
As part of the project, 50,000 ducklings were distributed free of cost among the 1000 women living in the vicinity of Rudrasagar.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb met the beneficiaries there on Sunday and held an interactive session with them to assess the success of the project.
“Women empowerment is one of the prerequisites for a prosperous state. From the beginning the State government is committed to create earning opportunities for women on a priority basis”, Deb reiterated.
He continued and said, “Aiming to empower women, 50 thousand ducklings were distributed to ensure earning opportunities for 1000 women – this initiative has now ensured a definite per capita earning for the beneficiaries”.
During the interaction, the Chief Minister hailed the efforts of the women and said the women have set up a sparkling example self-reliant mentality that is prevailing in the State.
“The beneficiaries associated with the duckery project in Rudrasagar are instances of financial empowerment of women through effective planning and steps”, Deb said.
The beneficiaries also apprised him of their experiences in attaining self-reliance through duckery-based earnings.
The Chief Minister suggested that women to increase earnings by expanding their activities through duckery and other animal husbandry projects.
He also stressed the need for proper assessment of the project to identify the strength and hurdles that the beneficiaries would face. It is pertinent to take appropriate steps to address the issues affecting the progress of the project.
The Chief Minister pointed out the Government has taken steps for modernization of the iconic tourist spot – Neermahal and to add newer services to attract tourists.
“With the ambitious tourism plan, Rudrasagar area would emerge as a major attraction for the domestic and foreign tourists”, Deb commented.
