Amidst Covid-ravaged situation, around Rs Two thousand crore taxes were collected in the last one year in Tripura, said secretary of the Finance Department Brijesh Pandey during a felicitation of taxpayers and small savings agents at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala on Monday. The programme was conducted as part of the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahoutsav.
He said, “Despite the Covid situation, tax collection in the state reached around Rs 2000 crore. The revenue generated from the taxes paid by the citizen helps the government to carry out the different developmental works including electrification initiatives and implementing infra projects”.
Hailing the taxpayers, Brijesh Pandey also said under Mission 100 Vidyajyoti Scheme, Rs 500 crore could have been allocated owing to the taxpayers.
“Paying taxes in due time is crucial to carry forward the developmental works by the State and Central Government”, Pandey said.
He urged the taxpayers with the pending amounts to clear the tax within sue time. Besides, he also urged people to pay taxes with honesty. The secretary of the Finance Department expressed gratitude to the taxpayers and agents of small savings schemes who were felicitated in today’s programme.
In the programme, a total of 34 agents including eight women agents of ‘Mahila Pradhan Khestriya Bachat Yojna (MPKBY), eight agents of Standardized Agency System (SAS) and others of 18 different organizations were felicitated with citations.
According to a government press release, around 3300 agents are working in the Small Savings sector – and their income varies between Rs 5000 to Rs 80,000 per month.
