Seven out of the eight Congress leaders and workers who were arrested in connection with an attack on a BJP rally received bail from the Judicial Magistrate Court on Tuesday after 17 days of jail remand. They were sent to JR in an allegation of attacking a BJP’s protest rally on February 26.
The Congress leaders who have been released on bail are Radhey Shyam Saha, Rajat Saha, Tirtha Saha, Mithun Das, Samrat Roy, Arnika Saha and Malabika Podder. Congress Bhavan sources said that all the 7 Congress leaders and workers have been released in exchange of a Rs. 1 lakh bond with two sureties from the Court of Judicial Magistrate. They will not be able to move out of West Tripura District without permission of the Court and they will have to attend at any time on call of Investigating Officer. Meanwhile, the court rejected the bail plea of Shahjahan Islam as some other case was filed against him at East Agartala Police Station.
They were arrested under Section 341/325/326/333/34 of IPC and Section 3A of Explosive Substance Act -1908 based on a complaint filed by Tutan Mandal. They were produced before the court on March 8.
As per the complaint, a team of Congress supporters entered the BJP Mandal Office at Banamalipur and assaulted the BJP supporters on February 26 last. In the wake of the attack incident, the BJP activists brought out a protest rally that paraded up to Post Office Chowmuhani near Congress Bhavan. At that time miscreants came in front of the rally and assaulted BJP supporters. Besides, miscreants allegedly threw petrol bombs from the roof of Congress Bhavan.
