Three teenagers aged 13 to 16 drowned in a ‘chara’ (rivulet) while bathing after celebrating Holi at Ambassa under Dhalai district in Tripura on Friday. All of them belong to Border Security Force (BSF) 138 Battalion BSF.  

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb has expressed his deep shock over this tragic incident.

A police official said that the three kids, after celebrating Holi, went to bathe in the rivulet and drowned in there. The children were immediately brought to the government hospital in unscious state, where doctors declared them brought dead.

Parents of all three boys are personnel of 138 Battalion BSF, headquarters of which is in Ambasa in Dhalai district.

Expressing profound grief, Biplab Kumar Deb, in his condolence message wrote, “I am deeply saddened at the tragic death of three minors who drowned at a Chara in Jaharnagar of Ambassa area. I am expressing my condolences to the bereaved family members BSF of the 138 No Bn who have lost their children. I understand such a grief cannot be forgotten. Let the God provide the bereaved family members the strength to withstand the grief”.     

As the report of the tragic incident spread, a pall of gloom descended in Jaharnagar and other areas. Several notable personalities of the State expressed condolence and extended sympathy to bereaved families of the BSF.

3 hurt in road mishap

In two other incidents, three persons were injured in a road mishap at Bishalgarh area in Sepahijala district on Friday. The incident took place on the national highway adjacent to Rabindra Nath Tagore College in Bishalgarh subdivision. A Maruti van (TR01U0622) heading from Agartala to Bishalgarh on Friday hit the back of a bus (TR01B1321) on the national highway; one person was injured in this incident.

The second mishap took place at the same place today in which two biker borne persons sustained injuries after their bike hit a bulldozer. The injured in these two accidents are Sanju Debnath, Anupam Debnath, Baban Bhowmik.
