A youth, who was reportedly beaten by a group of people at Barmura area under Jatrapur police station in Tripura on Monday night, passed away on Tuesday morning. People alleged the deceased came to Barmura to steal cattle. The deceased was 28 years old.
A probe was already initiated into the incident and two persons – Amar Chandra Das and Sentu Debnath were arrested in connection with the death of the youth, said SDPO Sonamura Banoj Biplab Das.
As per the assurance of the SDPO given to the agitating victim’s family members and neighbours, the two accused persons were reportedly arrested within few hours after the FIR was lodged at Jatrapur police station.
Police rescued the victim – Litan Mian, a resident of Tarapukur area in Dhanpur and was taken to Kathalia primary health centre soon after the incident on Monday night.
The attending medical officer referred the injured youth to GBP hospital in Agartala after his health condition deteriorated on Tuesday morning. But, the youth succumbed to his injuries before he was taken to the GBP hospital.
The deceased’s family alleged that it was an incident of ‘planned murder’. They also claimed that the deceased youth did not go to Barmura for cattle lifting.
A large group of people and family members of the victim staged a road blockade at Dhanpur bazaar following the death of the youth. The agitators demanded immediate arrest of the culprits involved in killing the youth. Finally, the protestors cleared the road after police assured them of arresting the culprits.
