Fish production as well as fish consumption at present has increased in the state which is one of the factors for economic development of the state. Pisciculture plays a special role in the state’s economy, said Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb after inaugurating one-day State-Level Workshop on Biofloc Fish Farming at RabindraBhawan today.
The Chief Minister also launched ‘Mukhyamantri Nibir Matsya chash Prakalpa’ in the programme. Successful Biofloc fish farmers of eight districts of the state were felicitated and a book on success in fish farming was unveiled by the guests. A key for Live Fish Vending Centre/ Van was also handed over to a woman beneficiary.
The Chief Minister said, there is scope for huge income generation in short span of time through fish farming. Besides the usual way of fish farming, scientific way of fish farming including Biofloc is being exercised with the right management and interest towards Biofloc fish farming has also increased.
The amount of fish consumption has increased in past 4 years to 25.53 kilograms per head. Fish farming area has increased by 8.20%. Fish mongers have increased by 4.62%. Fish production has increased by 5.97%. Success is being achieved due to simplifications in distribution process of different facilities, financial assistance by identifying fishermen at all levels of the state. The self-esteem of fishermen at all levels of the state has been ensure at present.
The Chief Minister said, the state government is working prioritizing fish production through various modern techniques including Biofloc and the usual way of fish farming. Filling up the lack from previous days, a huge scope for economic prosperity has been created based on fish farming.
There was a time when original fish farmers were neglected from getting the benefits of a beneficiary due to various reasons. But during the period of the present government, due to simplification and amendment in certain rules, now the fish farmers are able to reap the benefits. Original fish farmers are now able to avail loans and have found their path to becoming self-reliant. Due to right management, many are now eagerly getting into this occupation.
Fisheries Minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia said, it is possible to earn much more with willingness and making use of the new system of fish farming which smoothens the way towards becoming financially self-dependent. The state government is working taking bunch of plans to increase fish production, keeping up with the demand of time. Works are ongoing to create different water bodies in the state for fish farming. others present in the programme were Sabhadhipati of West Tripura Zila Parishad Antara Sarkar Deb, Secretary of Fisheries department T. K. Debnath, General Manager of NABARD M. R. Gopal.
