Divyangjans are the most beautiful persons of the society; they inspire people to have a positive attitude towards life, said Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
Addressing the National Health Festival organized for Divyangjans at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel on Thursday, the Chief Minister said, such children were identified as handicapped which is an insulting term for them and their families.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed the term as `Divyangjans’ which means those who came to the world for doing something special,” Deb said.
He said, Divyangjans are participating in the Olympics, climbing Mount Everest which means an individual’s identity is made by works. He called on the parents to identify good qualities of their children and encourage them to become bright with that quality.
The Chief Minister said, the state government’s duty is to deliver all kinds of government facilities to the weaker section of the society.
In the beginning of the event, Divyangjan children performed yoga in front of the Chief Minister and other guests. The Chief Minister inaugurated the event by releasing white balloons.
The event was organized as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav with the initiative of Special Olympics Bharat-Tripura and Abhay Mission. In the event, Divyangjans had their health check-up and were provided various items such as shoes, hygiene items etc.
The Chief Minister said, AIDS infection and drug addiction is gaining momentum among the youngsters presently. Healthy people are getting into this vicious cycle in many ways. The present state government earnestly aims to build Drug free Tripura.
He sought everyone’s cooperation in this regard. He also interacted with Divyangjans and took selfies with them. A Divyangjan, Shukla Sutradhar of Bhattapukur Kali Tills sang a song at the event for the Chief Minister.
Other dignitaries present at the event were Sabhadhipati of Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad Antara Deb Sarkar, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumdar, Director of Census Operations Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, president of Special Olympics Bharat-Tripura Prabir Kumar Nag, president of Abhay Mission Nirmal Deb and Secretary Sushmita Dey.
