As a part of the observance of National Fire Service Week, a mega mock-exercise on disaster management was held at Amtali school ground on Tuesday with participation of around 4000 people.
Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Ram Prasad Paul inaugurated the programme where he inaugurated two ultra high pressure mini fire tenders manufactured with newest technology and one Civil Defence utility vehicle.
The programme was organized by the Fire and Emergency Service department with the active support of the Revenue department and Dukli Panchayat Samiti.
Hundreds of school and college students, NDRF personnel, Fire and Emergency Services personnel, Civil Defence volunteers, Apada Mitra volunteers, Self Help Group members and other people participated in the Disaster Management preparedness programme like fire safety, firefighting and use of fire extinguishers, handling domestic fires, firefighting through fire balls and advanced technologies, drill using jumping cushions, earthquake evacuation drill and school safety, HAM Radio Communication and Equipment Demonstration, Disaster Safety Awareness and Street Plays. The participants were visibly found interested in participating in disaster management preparedness programmes.
Along with other parts of the country, the National Fire Service Week is being observed in Tripura from April 14 to 20 to remember those brave firefighters who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty during the fire and massive explosion at Mumbai dockyard on April 14, 1944. The week is the symbol of the discipline, courage and dedication of the firefighters as their motto is ‘serve to save lives and property’.
According to an official release, the Fire Minister appreciated the outstanding works done by firefighters and all frontline workers and awarded them with trophies and certificates. Kunjaban Fire station has been selected as ‘Best Fire Station’ while Station Officer Asim Ranjan Biswas has been awarded ‘employee of the year’ and 21 others were given ‘Director’s Commendation Award’.
Anindya Kumar Bhattacharya, Director of Fire and Emergency Services, Civil Defence and Disaster Management in his welcome address apprised that as per decision of the state government such programmes would be organized at Gram Panchayat level with Civil Defence, Aapda Mitra, Women Self-help Group to start disaster management preparedness in coming days. Ajoy Kumar Das, Chairman, Dukli Panchayat Samiti presided over the programme.
