With the onset of the monsoon season, the electric supply in the hills of Tripura is often being disrupted by falling trees and branches every year. Even this year, several areas in the State witnessed power disruptions after recent nor’westers.

In an attempt to address and mitigate power disruption problem, people of Jampui Hills in North Tripura set a laudable example.

More than 400 members of the Youth Wing of Jampui Hill Mizo Convention volunteered and embarked on an electricity line clearance work throughout the hill range in collaboration with officials from Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) and the Forest Department.

“The volunteers trimmed the branches of trees near the power transmission lines throughout the village so that power connections do not get snapped because of falling trees during monsoon”, said one of the Youth Wing of Jampui Hill Mizo Convention.

Members of the Jampui Hill Mizo Convention commented, Volunteerism in the service of the public is ingrained in the DNA of Mizo community and the community ownership of responsibilities helps in the successful implementation of government schemes, projects and programmes.

The concept of community ownership of responsibilities is necessary for sustainable growth – and the volunteers of the Youth Wing of Jampui Hill Mizo Convention have set an example which needs to replicated in other areas for the welfare of common people, opined informed sources.
