In line with the State Government’s drastic effort to make Tripura a Nesha Mukt state, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma urged the people to participate in ensuring that there is zero demand for drugs. He commented that the Government’s role is to stop the supply. He stressed the need for collective efforts of the society and the Government in combating drug menace.

The Deputy Chief Minister made the comment after inaugurating the Garia Festival 2022, traditional Food Festival and a cultural evening at Swami Vivekanada Stadium in Agartala on Sunday.

The Festival was organized by Pantwi Sporting Club Society and Ragini Hukumu Badol of Sepahijala in association with the Information and Cultural Affairs Department of Government of Tripura . Janajati Welfare Minister Mevar Kr. Jamatia also attended the program.

In a facebook post, Dev Varma wrote, “Appealed to all younger generations not to indulge in drugs and also requested to give up the drugs in order to build up a strong and vibrant society”.

He continued and wrote, “To make a drug free society both the supply of drugs and demands for drugs should be stopped. In doing so, society has to take up the responsibilities to make a zero demand -drugs free society and on the other hand government’s role is to stop the supply of drugs by its administrative agency”.

Both the Govt and society have their respective and important roles in making Tripura a drug free Tripura, the Deputy Chief Minister asserted.
