Flood situation continues to be grim in several north Indian states

ProMASS News Bureau: Aug 21, 2016: In Bihar, flood water is spreading in new areas in Bhojpur, Buxar, Munger, Bhagalpur and Khagaria districts. Flood water has also entered low lying areas of Patna. After making an aerial survey of the flood affected areas, Principal Secretary Disaster Management Department said the flood situation is the worst in Diara areas, Patna and Vaishali districts. AIR correspondent reports, riverine areas of Patna , Vaishali, Saran, and Buxar have been submerged. People who were living in diara areas have lost everything. Flood affected people of these areas have taken shelter in schools in Patna.

Movement of trains has been stopped between Chapra and Balia following overtopping of flood water on railway tracks at many places. Surging water of Sone and Punpun spreading in low lying areas of Jahanabad and Arwal districts of the state. In Uttar Pradesh, flood situation in eastern parts of state is still grim. Ganga is rising in many places including Allahabad and Varanasi. AIR correspondent reports, Thousands of people in flood areas are still suffering in different places. Army has been alerted in Allahabad.

Both Ganga and Yamuna rivers are rising continuously in the district. The district administration has asked the people residing near river areas to vacate their homes and move to safer places. Over hundred villages are facing critical flood situation in the district. About ten thousand people have taken shelter in relief camps so far .NDRF is also engaged in Ballai and Banda after rising water levels. Besides Allahabd, Ganga is rising in Varanasi, Ballia, and Mirzapur districts while Yamuna is also showing rising trend in Banda, Mathura and Allahabad. After release of water from the dam, Betwa river is also on spate in Hamirpur district. In Allahabad Ganga and Yamuna both rising between 2 to 3 cm per hour. In Rajasthan, incessant rain in south eastern districts affected normal life in the areas. Several over bridges have been submerged in water which affected the road traffic in these districts.

Maximum 26 centimeter rains was recorded in Jakham dam in Pratapgarh district. It was followed by Nimbaheda, Badi Sadri and Bhadesar each has received 22 centimeter rainfall in last 24 hours. AIR correspondent reports, Chittorgarh, Baran, Dungarpur, Banswara, Jhalawar and Pratapgarh today witnessed a good rainfall while other districts of the south eastern parts also received light to moderate rainfall. Several villages in these districts have been cut off due to roads disruption. An alert have been sounded in nearby areas of Chambal river in Karauli following level of water increased in the river. Several rivers are on spate in south eastern areas. In Madhya Pradesh, torrential rains have lashed western parts of the state while relief works have gained momentum in Bundelkhand and Vindhya regions as rainfall subsided in these areas. AIR Bhopal correspondent reports that normal life has been affected in Guna, Rajgarh, Shivpuri, Mandsour, Ujjain and other parts of Western Madhya Pradesh. Major rivers including Retam, Chambal, Shivna, Kshipra and Sindh are in spate.
