In a gruesome killing a 63-year-old retired Fire service employee Kripesh Deb was stabbed to death and burnt allegedly by one Apan Barman at Kalamchoura on April 27 and Police arrested Apan Barman within 24 hours after the crime was committed.
Deceased Kripesh Deb was a resident of Badharghat near Agartala.
According to sources, Apan Barman acquainted with Kripesh Deb when the latter was in service with the Fire Service department. However, terms between Kripesh Deb and Apan Barman soured over disputes relating to money lending. Apan Barman took a loan of Rs 5 lakhs for himself and later another tranche of Rs 60 lakh for others. However, disputes surfaced as Apan was not returning the money that he owed to Kripesh Deb.
In a planned manner, Apan Barman told Kripesh Deb to meet him on April 26 last – Apan sent one of his accomplices to bring Deb. As he did not return home, family members of Deb lodged a missing diary at Amtali Police station on that night.
Meantime, Kalamchoura Police recovered an unidentified and badly burnt body from a jungle on April 27 near the ONGC drilling site along the Manikyanagar-Kalamchoura By-pass road. At night son of the deceased person identified the body.
Led by SDPO of Sonamura Banuj Biplab Das, Police swung into action and picked up Apan Barman on Thursday – within 24 hours of the crime committed.
During the interrogation, Apan Barman revealed details of the gruesome killing of Kripesh Deb. Meantime, the body of Kripesh Deb was handed over to the family members today after the autopsy and he was consigned to flames later in the evening.
