Ruling BJP supporters faced the wrath of alleged Tipra Motha activists, at least in two places, as they were travelling to attend the Janajati Janasabha of BJP’s national president JP Nadda at Khumulwng in Tripura on Monday (August 29).
It is reported that at least 34 ruling BJP supporters – 26 at Jagaibari in Pramodnagar under Bishramganj and 8 at Namanjoy Para area under Champahaor Police stations – were injured in attacks allegedly unleashed by the Tipra Motha supporters.
On both occasion, alleged Tipra Motha supporters were armed with sticks, bows and arrows and other sharp weapons. The miscreants first rained stones on the vehicles in which the BJP supporters were travelling. Later they attacked the supporters and left them critically injured.
At Jagaibari, alleged Tipra Motha supporters launched a vicious attack and started pelting stones that badly damaged the vehicles. Later, they dragged out the BJP supporters and the drivers from the vehicles and thrashed them mercilessly.
Total 26 BJP supporters were admitted to Bishramganj Hospital and three persons, among them, were referred to GB Hospital with critical injuries while others are undergoing treatment at the Bishramganj Hospital.
In yet another attack, as many as eight BJP Janajati Morcha functionaries, including a woman, were injured in an alleged attack by Tipra Motha sheltered miscreants. The incident took place on Monday afternoon in Namanjoy Para area under Champahaor police station.
The injured supporters alleged, “As soon as we arrived in Namanjoy Para miscreants backed by Tipra Motha launched a ferocious attack on us with sticks. Also our cars were miserably vandalized. The Tipra Motha supporters attacked us to prevent us from attending JP Nadda’s public rally at Khumulkwng and create a panic among the Janajati people who support us”.
In both the cases, attackers outnumbered the rally bound BJP supporters. Police are investigating.
