ProMASS News Bureau: Aug 29, 2016: The sports loving people of the country are observing birth anniversary hockey legend Dhyan Chand. National Sports Day is celebrated annually to mark the birth anniversary of India’s hockey legend Dhyan Chand. He was known as the best hockey player of all times. Former hockey players, including Dhyan Chand’s son and former Olympian Ashok Kumar, demanded the country’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna, for the hockey legend. The players gathered at the Jantar Mantar monument in New Delhi to press the government for considering their demand. On the occasion, sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik joined the chorus and created a sand art ‘Bharat Ratna Dhyan Chand’. Union Sports minister Vijay Goel said he will take forward this popular sentiment of giving Bharat Ratna to Major Dhyan Chand. Sportspersons said that National Sports Day is the perfect opportunity to honour him with the highest civilian award.
