Double engine government of BJP unleashed double engine exploitation. In Tripura the HIRA Model has become a drug model, alleged CPIM Politburo leader Brinda Karat while taking part in a women’s rally in Agartala on Monday (Dec 19)

Brinda Karat slammed the BJP led government on lack of women’s safety in the country including Tripura and women empowerment in the context of the ‘attack on democracy’.

She wanted to know if Prime Minister Narendra Modi was aware of the gang rapes in Tripura. She also asked if the Prime Minister is aware about how many BJP supporters are involved in crime against Women.

Commenting on all India perspective, Brinda said, it is shameful that every day 86 women become victims of rape in the country, over 6000 women are burnt alive in the name of the dowry. She termed the crime against women (CAW) as a failure of the Modi Government ensuring safety of women in the country.

She blamed the ‘autocratic’ BJP-RSS for throttling democracy in Tripura. “With democracy is at stake in the State, how the women empowerment can be achieved”, she asked. Referring to the allegations of rigging in polls, Brinda Karat said how development and welfare could be achieved if people are not allowed to cast votes freely.

Blaming the BJP-led Government for ‘attacking’ parliamentary democracy and Judiciary, Karat said, “We had seen an emergency in the past, but never saw such a scale of the attack on the country’s parliamentary democracy. The Supreme Court had to seek an explanation from the government on how the Election Commissioner was appointed”, she said.

Karat urged the women of the State to be united and step forward to end the present regime for the sake of democracy, secularism and welfare of common people.

In the meeting, Opposition leader in Tripura and CPIM Politburo leader Manik Sarkar also delivered speech and criticized the incumbent BJP government.
