The leader of opposition and the CPI-M Politburo member Manik Sarkar alleged the ruling BJP in Tripura has ruined the State and if this party returns to power, it would ruin Tripura more and common people would continue to suffer.

Sarkar alleged people are distraught with the ruling party and working class as well as youths are the worst sufferers during the 58 months old BJP regime in Tripura.

Sarkar was addressing a rally of CPI-M’s trade union Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) at Swami Vivekananda ground in Agartala.

Analysing the vote share of BJP, the opposition leader said BJP had less than 5 per cent votes in Tripura prior to the 2018 Assembly polls in which the votes share increased to give the party a winning edge.

However, during the last Assembly polls, leaders and supporters of Congress and TMC joined the saffron party pushing up the votes share, Sarkar said and added the scenario has changed at present.

He explained and said, many of the Congress and TMC supporters who joined BJP have left the ruling party during the last 58 months and returned to their old parties. Moreover, a major portion of BJP’s ally IPFT is with another party at present.

With democracy is at stake and deterioration in law and order situation, disillusionment among the common people, especially among the youth is growing, Sarkar claimed.

In view of the emerging situation, the need of the hour is the restoration of democracy and re-establishment of the rule of the law in the State, he said and appealed to the working class to play a crucial role in uniting people against the BJP’s “misrule”, and build peoples’ resistance against ‘anti-people government.

In this connection, Manik Sarkar also demanded Election Commission of India (ECI) to take steps so that voters can freely cast their votes through fair voting process.

Addressing the gathering CPIM state secretary Jitendra Choudhury said, “To stop BJP from its vote robbery and poll manipulation, Left Front and Congress have taken a decision to resist BJP’s ploy every booth – decision for a united effort against BJP has been finalised and alliance issue will come later, Choudhury commented.

Among others, former MP and CITU leader Shankar Prasad Dutta and former minister Manik Dey were present in the rally.
