Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress, without bringin the Bengal based stars and leaders, held a joining programme and rally at Melaghar under Sepahijala in Tripura on Tuesday (Jan 10). Party’s State president Pijush Biswas, RS MP from Bengal Sushmita Dev and State in-charge Rajib Banerjee were present.

Interesting it may sound, the Trinamool Congress has not pressed into services of its Bengal based leaders even as crucial Assembly Polls is ensuing in the State. Party’s supremo Mamata Banerjee recently visited Meghalaya – even as there is a talk of the Tripura visit, no specific date has been announced so far.

In previous elections, even in the urban body polls, Trinamool Congress leaders and Ministers from Bengal flew down to Tripura and campaigned for the party. During the by-polls in four Assembly seats also, several leaders and actors arrived in Tripura to woo the voters.

However, with the net result being utterly disappointing, it appears the Trinamool Congress is relying on two outsiders – Sushmita Dev and Rajib Banerjee – who are staying in the State and trying to understand the pulses of the people.

After the humiliating drubbing in the by-polls in Tripura, Trinamool Congress leadership is facing a uphill task in the Assembly Polls.

The popular welfare measures of the Mamata Banerjee launched in Bengal are the main poll plank of the Trinamool Congress. Besides, like Bengal, Trinamool leaders are eyeing to get as much support as possible from people of Minority Muslim community. The reality is that number of Muslim voters compared to West Bengal is insignificant and unlikely to be deciding factor in most of 60 seats in Tripura.

Its inability to break away top leaders of the Congress or BJP is another major headache for the Party’s Bengal leadership.

Even as party’s State president Pijush Kanti Biswas is trying to be an optimistic and sporting a confident look, many political pundits are doubtful about the performance of the Party in Tripura.

Despite its limitation, Biswas along with Sushmita Dev and Rajib Banerjee are trying their best and conducting rallies and public meetings in parts of the State.

After holding rallies at Kadamtala-Kurti Assembly constituency, Trinamool leaders held a joining programme at Melaghar in which, party sources claimed, 126 voters from 26 families joined Trinamool Congress. Later, supporters led by Biswas and others held a protest march in Melaghar today.
