One person died and another one was seriously injured after the Agartala bound Tripurasundari Express hit a big concrete mixing vehicle on track near Jaharnagar station at Dhalai in Tripura on Thursday (Jan 12) morning. 

 

The Express train was coming from New Delhi.

 

As the train rammed on the equipment, driver of the concrete mixing vehicle, Dipankar Paul and his assistant Sanjoy Reang were severely injured.

 

Later Pal succumbed in the Kulai hospital while condition of Reang was stated to be critical.

 

However, on board train passengers were unharmed and safe.

 

Works by a contractor for the construction of a railway overbridge at Jaharnagar station were going on past few days. 

 

It is reported the driver along with his co driver were in vehicle which was on the track. Even as the train blew whistle, the driver of the mixing vehicle failed to move away from the track in time with the vehicle. 

 

The train rammed into the vehicle and cut it into two pieces and came to a halt. Both the driver and his assistant sustained critical injuries. The engine of the train was also damaged – and the train was not derailed and passengers remained safe.

 

Fire service personnel took the injured drivers to the Kulai Hospital. In the evening Dipankar Paul, the driver died.

 

The local police along with the Railway Protection Force rushed to the accident site.

 

The railway officials and also reached the spot. Later an engine from Agartala arrived. It took around 5 hours to restore normalcy and the train reached its destination safely.
