Tripura Police have achieved major success in their fight against drugs during a special drive that took place between April 19 and April 25, 2023. The police seized a significant amount of contraband items and made several arrests during the week-long operation. Besides, the Police also organized several awareness camps against the drug menace.
Giving details of the week-long special drive, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha tweeted, “Tripura Police remains committed towards Nesha Mukt Tripura.”
According to the figures tweeted by Dr Saha, the police have seized 388 grams of heroin, 2034 kilograms of dry ganja, 5404 Yaba tablets, and 1724 nos of contraband codeine-based cough syrup.
Additionally, the police also seized nine vehicles during the operation. The total value of the seized items is estimated to be around Rs. 2,51,30,875.
During the course of the special drive, the police arrested total 245 persons in connection with drug trafficking. The police also conducted 1064 raids and checked 53,294 vehicles and trains.
In total, 50 cases were registered in connection with the seizures and arrests made during the operation.
Besides, the Tripura Police organized 375 awareness campaigns during the special drive to educate the public about the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking.
The success of the special drive is a significant boost to the ongoing efforts of the Tripura Police to curb drug trafficking in the state. Considering the danger of drugs, the State Government gave a call to build ‘Nesha Mukt’ Tripura. The police and in some cases, local people are working relentlessly against the drug traffickers to achieve the goal of making the State addiction free.
Apart from the Police action, several steps – like encouraging them to join in sports activities etc – have been taken to pull out the affected youths as well as to prevent youths falling victim to drug addiction.
