In a significant boost to improving life of poorer sections, the Union Ministry of Rural Development has recently announced the allocation of an additional 1,30,695 houses to Tripura under the flagship Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme.
Tourism Minister of Tripura, Sushanta Chowdhury, made the announcement during a press conference held at the Secretariat in Agartala on Wednesday (May 31).
Expressing gratitude towards the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Minister Chowdhury highlighted that among all the northeastern states, Tripura has been granted the highest number of houses by the Ministry of Rural Development.
He revealed that Tripura had already been assigned 201,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, with the majority of the housing construction work nearing completion, leaving only 84,000 houses currently under construction.
Minister Chowdhury assured the public that the remaining residences would be swiftly completed to ensure timely provision of housing to the beneficiaries.
He also revealed that the state had been allocated an additional 87,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban project, of which 53,000 houses had already been constructed.
During the press conference, the Tourism Minister expressed optimism that the allocation of additional housing would contribute to an improvement in the socio-economic status of the state.
Furthermore, he emphasized that the allocation was a significant step towards realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of sustainable housing for all.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has garnered substantial support from financially weaker sections of society.
In Tripura, the implementation of the scheme has been widely championed by leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The selection of beneficiaries has been lauded for its impartiality, with individuals from different opposition political parties also receiving houses under the scheme. This largely fair and unbiased selection process has been widely appreciated and has further strengthened public support for the program.
The additional allocation of houses is expected to bolster the already strong public backing for the scheme, as it continues to make a positive impact on the lives of people in Tripura.
According to the experts, with the completion of these housing projects, the state is set to witness a significant improvement in living conditions and a step closer to achieving the goal of providing sustainable housing for all citizens.
