Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepalese counterpart Pushpa Kamal Dahal, known as ‘Prachanda’, are currently engaged in bilateral talks at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The meeting between the two leaders holds significance as it marks Prachanda’s first official visit to a foreign country since assuming office in December last year.
During the talks, a series of important agreements are expected to be signed, reflecting the strengthening of India-Nepal bilateral relations across various sectors. The governments of both nations have been working towards enhancing cooperation in recent years, and this visit aims to add further momentum to their partnership.
Prachanda, who arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for his four-day official visit, commenced his day by paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat on Thursday morning. This gesture signifies the historical ties and shared values between the two nations. Following the bilateral talks, Prachanda will have meetings with President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar later in the day, further solidifying the diplomatic engagement between Nepal and India.
The Nepalese Prime Minister’s itinerary also includes visits to Ujjain and Indore on Friday, allowing him to explore cultural and economic aspects of India.
Accompanying Prachanda on this visit is his daughter Ganga Dahal, as well as a high-level delegation comprising Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat, Finance Minister Shakti Basnet, Energy Minister Prakash Jwala, Physical Infrastructure & Transport Minister Ramesh Rijal, Chief Secretary, Secretaries, and other senior government officials.
The ongoing visit is in line with India’s Neighbourhood First policy, emphasizing the significance placed on strong ties with neighboring countries. The frequent high-level exchanges between India and Nepal contribute to the deepening of bilateral relations and the mutual development of both nations. As the talks progress and agreements are signed, it is evident that India-Nepal cooperation continues to grow, fostering prosperity and stability in the region.
