Tripura police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against an assistant professor from Tripura Central University, following allegations of molestation made by a female student.
As per Sub-divisional Police Officer Asish Dasgupta, the assistant professor in the philosophy department is being accused of molesting a final-year student.
The victim’s mother lodged a complaint with the Amtali police station, situated on the outskirts of Agartala, which prompted an investigation into the matter.
In response, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a sit-in demonstration on Tuesday in front of the Vice-Chancellor Ganga Prasad Prasain’s office, demanding action against the accused assistant professor.
The ABVP members urged for the immediate suspension of the accused teacher until a thorough investigation into the case is concluded.
In a meeting with the protesting ABVP members, the Vice-Chancellor and the Dean of Students’ Welfare, Somdev Banik, assured them that the matter would be promptly addressed and handled according to the university’s regulations.
The university’s internal complaint committee will also take appropriate measures to ensure justice for the affected student.
It was reported that during a viva test in the philosophy department on Monday, the female student reported the incident of molestation by the assistant professor.
Following the incident, the victim lost consciousness and her oxygen levels dropped, leading to her admission to a hospital. However, she was discharged on Tuesday. (Edited)
