Three individuals sustained injuries when an improvised explosive device (IED) concealed in a vehicle detonated in Kwakta, located in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, on Wednesday, according to officials.
The injured individuals were promptly transported to Bishnupur district hospital, with one of them reportedly in critical condition.
Following the incident, additional security forces have been deployed in the area, stated a police official based in Imphal.
In a separate development on the same day, security forces successfully dismantled a militant bunker believed to have been utilized by insurgents in the Leimakhong area of Imphal West district.
Reports of sporadic exchange of fire between rival militant groups were also received from two locations in Manipur’s Imphal East and Imphal West districts. However, there were no casualties or injuries reported in these firing incidents.
Meanwhile, the Army, Assam Rifles, and various other central and state security forces continue to carry out search and combing operations across different parts of the state.
Efforts are underway to recover arms and ammunition from troublemakers and apprehend those involved in acts of violence.
In a significant development, six student organizations in Manipur have jointly decided to boycott the nine Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) who recently submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
The student bodies, including the All Manipur Students Union, Manipur Students Federation, Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur, and Kangleipak Students Association, expressed their discontent over the nine MLAs’ statement in the memorandum, which indicated a loss of faith in the state government and administration.
They emphasized that this is not the appropriate time for political leaders to exploit the situation for their own benefit.
Eight MLAs from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and an independent legislator collectively submitted a five-point memorandum to Prime Minister Modi last week, expressing the public’s lack of trust and confidence in the government and administration. (Edited)
