Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha appealed for community participation, especially the involvement of the clubs to combat the drug menace in the State. The Chief Minister also pointed out noticeable changing trends in the club culture.
Taking a dig at the previous Left Front Government for destroying society and the youth, Dr Saha said, “Over the last 35 years, our society has suffered greatly from the devastating impact of drug abuse, particularly among the youth. However, since the formation of our current government, we have launched a relentless campaign against drugs as per the direction of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Stringent measures have been taken, leading to arrests of several persons involved in the menace”.
However, to effectively tackle the issue, the Chief Minister said clubs should cooperate with the police and government. It is imperative for everyone to unite in the fight against the drug menace, as clubs can play a pivotal role in addressing societal problems, he asserted.
The Chief Minister was speaking at an event organized for laying the foundation stone of the Pond Beautification drive and a blood donation camp at the Yuba Samaj Club in Agartala on Sunday. Among others, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder was also present in the programme.
In his speech, the Chief Minister underlined the remarkable changes in the club culture in Tripura. He said, “Clubs are now engaging in various social works, practising yoga, participating in sports, and more. In the past, the term ‘club’ had a negative connotation, but that perception has changed significantly”.
The blood donation camp was held on the theme that may be translated as “if I am a blood donor, I will win humanity”. Dr. Saha urged everyone to step forward and donate blood, emphasizing that the state currently has approximately 42,000 units of blood available.
In this connection, he also said, “Our government has made all the necessary arrangements for our healthcare system. Health remains a priority sector for us. PM Modi is also working towards healthcare development”.
The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for the rejuvenation and beautification of an age-old pond of the Yuba Samaj Club today.
