NABARD sanctioned projects worth Rs.496 crore to the Government of Tripura for the development of rural infrastructure and disbursed a total amount of Rs.500 crores towards the initiation of new projects and completion of old projects during 2022-23.
The banks were provided refinance of Rs.525 crore to facilitate credit flow to agriculture and rural sector during the year 2022-23, said Loken Das, GM/OIC, NABARD Tripura RO.
Das was speaking at an event organized to celebrate the 42nd Foundation Day of NABARD in Agartala on Tuesday.
NABARD was established on July 12, 1982 as the apex financial institution to facilitate the growth of agriculture and rural development by promoting the flow of credit and through other supportive initiatives.
Among the galaxy of distinguished guests who graced the program were Jitendra Majumder, the MLA, GoT; Prasada Rao Vaddarapu, CEO, TRLM; Loken Das, GM/OIC, NABARD Tripura RO; Diganta Das, DGM, NABARD; Prof. T. K. Maity, Principal, College of Agriculture; Kamal Kanti Sen, Chairman, TSCB; Satyendra Singh, Chairman, TGB; Prof.Arunbhai Patel, Deputy Dean, College of Fisheries.
The programme began with Diganta Das welcoming the dignitaries and participants.
In his address, Loken Das addressed the participants and discussed the initiatives of NABARD and the specific interventions in Tripura for fostering rural prosperity.
He also said development initiatives such as the promotion of Kharif onion and baby corn cultivation, sanction of an Off-Farm Producer Organisation, initiation of a Tribal Development Project, initiatives towards development of handlooms and handicrafts of Tripura, etc.
Prof. T.K. Maity discussed the importance of millet and the potential of millet cultivation in Tripura. He also discussed the collaboration and support received from NABARD.
Prasada Rao Vaddarapu while congratulating NABARD on its foundation day, emphasised on the collaboration with NABARD for facilitating rural prosperity.
Jitendra Majumder appreciated the effort of NABARD in ensuring the flow of credit for agriculture and the rural sector while reminiscing about his own journey beginning as a member of the Farmers’ Club promoted under the Farmers’ Club programme of NABARD.
During the programme, sanction letters on various projects were handed over to a few SHGs/NGOs. Best performing branches of TGB & TSCB were provided with a token of appreciation. Besides the programme, an exhibition of handloom & handicraft products was also organized by various SHG groups in Tripura.
