Apart from the allocation of a record 39.81 per cent for the Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), the incumbent BJP government took Constitutional initiatives for the holistic development of the Janajati people of the State in 2019 by transferring more power to the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
Several Political parties said many things about transferring more power to the TTAADC – however, BJP was the first Political party that took Constitutional steps and placed a Bill in the Rajya Sabha in 2019, said BJP leader and Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath.
Speaking to the media in Agartala on Wednesday, Nath said, the then Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh tabled the 125 Amendment of the Constitution for devaluation of more power to the ADCs in 4 North Eastern States including Tripura based on the 6th Schedule in the Rajya Sabha on February 6, 2019 which was sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Union Home Ministry and opinions were sought from Tripura and three other States.
“We gave consent to the amendment proposals for the interests of the Janajati people of the State. Besides, the State Cabinet proposed the formation of the Block Council in the TTAADC area in line with the 3-tier Panchayat system to facilitate developmental activities. The State government also proposed renaming the ADC to the Tipra Territorial Council”, he said.
“Further, the amendment proposed the nomination of four members including two women in the 30-member ADC by the Governor. However, the State Government proposed to increase its strength to 50 seats with six persons to be nominated by the Government”, Nath informed the media.
He reiterated the Government’s commitment to ensure the overall development and welfare of the Janajati people. After giving consent to proposals regarding empowering the ADC, the State Government is in touch with the Union Government and sent letters by the Ministers and concerned State Officials to the Central Government to ensure the speedy completion of the processes.
