Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman will be on a two-day visit to Assam and Tripura from 21 to 22 July next. After attending programmes in Assam, the Union Finance Minister will attend the GST Bhawan inauguration in Agartala on July 21. She is scheduled to visit Srimantapur ICP in Tripura on July 22 next.   

During her visit in Guwahati, she will participate in the Investiture Ceremony for the conferment of the Presidential Award for – ‘Specially Distinguished Record of Service’ to the officers and staff of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).

The ceremony will be held in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Guwahati on 21st July 2023 from 9:00 AM. The Presidential Award of Appreciation Certificates were announced on the occasion of Republic Day, 2023.

Presidential Award of Appreciation Certificate will be awarded to 29 officers and staff of CBIC. These officers were selected based on their exemplary performance in their respective fields of service over the years. The awardees selected this year include officers from all cadres of the Service, who have consistently performed with distinction in their various assignments, including prevention of smuggling, detection of tax evasion, detection of trade-based money laundering and foreign exchange violations, besides contributions in tax policy formulation, revenue mobilization, and automation of business processes, and capacity building and training. 

The ceremony will also be attended by the Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary who shall be the Guest of Honour, Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra and Shri Vivek Johri, Special  Secretary to Government of India & Chairman, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), along with Members of CBIC, senior officers of the Department.

The Finance Minister along with the dignitaries will then proceed to Tripura to attend the Inauguration Function of the GST Bhawan in Agartala. Later in the evening, the Union Minister will chair a review meeting of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) at Agartala. On July 22, the Union Finance Minister shall visit the ICP, Jetty and Indo-Bangladesh border gate at Srimantapur in Tripura.
