Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the state government’s dedicated efforts towards industrial development to realize the vision of an Atma Nirbhar and self-reliant Tripura, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aspirations.
Speaking at the opening session of a four-day Roundtable on Forest and Agro-Forest Value Chain Development, organized by the Industries and Commerce department, the Chief Minister underscored the significance of these initiatives for economic growth.
The event was a precursor to the upcoming 3rd International Buyer-Seller Meet of Agarwood Products, aimed at propelling Agarwood into a pivotal role within the state’s economy. Scheduled to be held from October 5-7 in Agartala, this meeting seeks to leverage Agarwood’s potential to contribute significantly to the economy, targeting a 20 billion economy within five years.
Dr. Manik Saha highlighted the abundant forest resources in the state and underscored their vital role in fostering economic prosperity. Notably, the state had already taken a significant step in this direction by launching the Agarwood Policy in July 2021. Moreover, the Central Government has designated export quotas for Agarwood products, providing a favorable environment for potential investors in the Agar-based industry to consider Tripura.
Drawing attention to the considerable infrastructural improvements in the state over recent years, the Chief Minister emphasized the development of connectivity, which is pivotal for attracting investments and aiding economic growth.
Additionally, Dr. Saha stressed the importance of eco-tourism as a supplementary avenue for growth, revealing that the state has entrusted Tripura Nature Trails and Resource Limited with the responsibility of enhancing eco-tourism offerings at the Sepahijala and Gomati wildlife sanctuaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Industries and Commerce Santana Chakma said apart from setting up industries using Rubber and Bamboo, there are ample opportunities for food processing units centering state’s famous fruits like pineapple and jackfruit.
The event witnessed the presence of prominent figures such as, Principal Secretary of Industries and Commerce K.S. Sethi, Addl. PCCF V.G. Jenner, and Director of Industries and Commerce Viswashree B., among others.
This concerted focus on industrial development, coupled with strategic policies and collaborations, signifies a significant stride towards achieving the vision of an independent and self-reliant Tripura.
