In a formal ceremony held at the Tripura Legislative Assembly, two recently elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates, Tafajjal Hossain and Bindu Debnath, were sworn in as Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) on Tuesday.

Speaker Bishwabandhu Sen administered the oath in the ceremony, which was attended by Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha and various Cabinet members.

With Oath taking of Hossain and Debnath, the strength of the BJP and Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) alliance government in Tripura increased to 34.

The Opposition parties did not attend the swearing-in ceremony alleging that the election was farcical.

It is worth noting that both Bindu Debnath and Tafajjal Hossain secured decisive victories in the recently concluded Dhanpur and Boxnagar assembly constituencies, winning by a huge margin of votes.

The swearing-in ceremony took place in the Legislative Assembly lobby and saw the attendance of Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, as well as other members of the Cabinet and MLAs.

Distinguished guests, including BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharya, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar, and other notable personalities, were also present at the event, highlighting its political significance.

In a conversation with the media, Chief Minister Dr. Saha clarified the circumstances leading to these by-elections.

He expressed his gratitude to the constituents of these two constituencies for their substantial participation in the recent by-elections, resulting in a historic victory for the BJP’s nominated candidates. He emphasized that this electoral success had strengthened the BJP’s position in the assembly, now commanding 34 seats.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Dr. Saha conveyed optimism about the dedication of the newly elected MLAs to the welfare of their respective constituencies. As they commence their legislative responsibilities, their commitment to serving the people of Tripura remains a central focus.

After taking their oaths as legislators, newly elected Bindu Debnath and Tafajjal Hossain told the media that they would prioritize the overall development of their areas with a special emphasis on education, health and road connectivity. They also extended special thanks and gratitude to the voters.
