In relentless pursuit to enhance healthcare accessibility and affordability, Tripura’s Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, inaugurated the first of its kind Block Public Health Unit at the Kalyanpur Community Health Centre in Khowai district on Thursday.
During the inauguration of the Block Public Health Unit, Dr. Saha underlined the government’s steadfast commitment to bolstering the health infrastructure for the betterment of the state’s residents.
He said, “The primary objective of establishing this Block Public Health Unit is to heed the Prime Minister’s call for extending healthcare services to the grassroots level. The success of initiating COVID-19 vaccinations at the block level has inspired Prime Minister Modi to strengthen healthcare services at this level. By fortifying medical care at the block level, our goal is to alleviate the strain on Sub-divisional and State hospitals, ultimately enhancing the well-being of our people.”
Dr. Saha further detailed that the Block Public Health Unit would be equipped with modernized medical equipment and emergency facilities to swiftly address health issues at the local level.
“We aim to establish these units in 18 blocks initially, with Kalyanpur being the pioneering location, followed by all 59 blocks. Additionally, we are planning to introduce Homeopathy and Ayurvedic colleges to complement our existing dental and nursing colleges. Another medical college is slated for establishment in Ambassa, within the Dhalai district. The inauguration of level 3 trauma centers at three locations is already accomplished, with one more under construction,” Dr. Saha affirmed.
He stressed that the government’s unswerving focus remains on health, education, and agriculture. “Good health is a prerequisite for development, and we’ve successfully reduced the number of referral cases from the state to outside institutions,” added the Chief Minister.
Dr. Saha later went on to inaugurate the Operation Theater Complex at Teliamura Sub-Divisional Hospital in Khowai district.
The event witnessed the presence of notable figures including Chief Whip of Tripura Legislative Assembly Kalyani Roy, Janajati Kalyan Minister Bikas Debbarma, MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, and Khowai District Magistrate Chandni Chandran.
