In an attempt to bolster the Public Distribution System (PDS) and ensure its accessibility to the public, Chief Minister of Tripura Prof. Dr. Manik Saha formally launched  the distribution of mustard oil through the PDS at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, Agartala on Monday.

Besides, he marked the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja by inaugurating the distribution of free canvas bags along with various ration items to consumers as part of environment conservation.

Dr. Saha highlighted the government’s unwavering commitment to meeting the public’s needs through development-oriented programs. He stressed that the administration’s consistent efforts encompass the protection of consumer rights, price control maintenance, and the stability of essential commodities in the market. “We are dedicated to ensuring that essential commodities reach the public through the PDS,” emphasized Dr. Saha.

The distribution of mustard oil through the PDS represents a pivotal component of the state government’s development agenda.

Dr. Saha remarked, “The inclusion of mustard oil distribution in the PDS was a pledge outlined in our election manifesto. Since taking office in 2018, our state government has operated with a service-oriented approach. We initiated the procurement of paddy from farmers at the minimum support price to empower them. One of our primary objectives is to foster a prosperous Tripura while generating employment opportunities.”

Notably, Chief Minister Dr. Saha personally handed canvas bags containing various ration items, including mustard oil, to 20 consumers. In addition, he distributed cheques of Rs 5,000 to eight ration dealers representing eight districts of the state for the establishment of model ration shops.

The state government’s decision also entailed the provision of Rs 2,000 to 635 workers under the food department on the occasion of Sharadotsav. The Chief Minister unveiled a booklet from the Food Department during the event.

The event saw the presence of Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, along with other officials from the department.
