Like Agartala, the Durga Puja carnival was held in Teliamura this year for the first time and the carnival fever gripped the local people. Bright illumination along with dances and songs made the durga idol immersion procession in Telimura on Friday a remarkable event.
“It is for the first time that people of Teliamura witnessed gracious immersion processions. Coined as Mayer Gamon, the carnival drew huge response from the overwhelmed crowd. We heard about such carnivals in Kolkata and Agartala. This year we also got a chance to witness the extravaganza.
On the enchanting Friday evening, a total of nine puja organizers, representing clubs from both the Teliamura town and adjacent areas, participated in this extraordinary carnival event.
A VIP stage was strategically placed at Ompi Choumuhuni, the heart of Teliamura – the participants from different clubs performed and presented various forms of cultural activities before the VIPs and marched forward along with the idols.
Locals belonging to different communities and religions thronged and flooded the streets to witness this colorful and auspicious journey, as the participating clubs showcased their captivating performances while adorned in an array of mesmerizing costumes.
One performance that stood out was the theme of Bullet Club, a very popular and well known Club of Teliamura, which held the audience in rapt attention with its mesmerizing glittering act.
The grand inauguration of this carnival event was presided over by State Assembly Chief Whip, Kalyani Saha Roy. In attendance were other dignitaries, including MLA Pinaki Das Chowdhury, Khowai District Magistrate Chadrani Chadran, District Police Superintendent Ramesh Yadav, Teliamura Pur Parishad Chairman Rupak Sarkar, Vice Chairman Madhusudan Roy, and several other notable personalities.
