In a shocking incident, a minor girl, belonging to an indigenous community was brutally gang raped in the Mungiakami police station area in Tripura on Saturday night.  The area comes under the jurisdiction of the state’s tribal welfare minister, Vikas Debbarma. However, swift police action led to the arrest of the alleged perpetrators within three hours of the case being filed.

The Mungiakami police, under the leadership of Sub-Divisional Police Officer Prasoon Kanti Tripura, was quick to respond to the distressing incident.

According to the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, the victim, a 16-year-old girl, had ventured out of her home on the night of Lakshmi Puja (on Saturday) to take the Prasad of the Maa Laxmi with her friends. Accompanied by a girl friend of the same age and two male friends, the group was soon approached by three individuals from the village.

Identified as Kshitish Debbarma, Ajay Debbarma, and Subikash Debbarma, these individuals allegedly scared off the victim’s friends and forcibly took her to a secluded location, where she was subjected to a horrifying gang rape ordeal that lasted throughout the night.

Later, the victim returned to her home on Sunday morning and confided in her family about the terrible incident. Her family promptly took her to the Mungiakami police station, where a case of gang rape was registered based on the minor’s statement. A case was registered, and the three accused were charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, section 376 AD 6.

Police soon swung into action, leading to the arrest of the three suspects within just three hours of the case being filed. The arrested individuals are set to appear in the Khowai court for further legal proceedings tomorrow.
