The Chief Minister of Tripura, Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha said nurses play an important role in providing healthcare along with doctors. The reputation of any health institution also depends on the humanitarian service of the nurses. He said that nurses are the messengers of healthcare.
Dr Saha was speaking after inaugurating the Lamping Light and Oath Ceremony of the first batch of BSc Nursing students at the Auditorium of Agartala Government Nursing College, IGMH Hospital, Agartala on Tuesday.
He said only if nurses can provide service to the patient by taking him/her as their own and standing by the side of the dying person, the significance of today’s oath taking will come.
Dr Saha said that Florence Nightingale was the mother of modern nursing service. If a nurse can present her knowledge, skills, and her own responsibility to the patients, then Nightingale’s vision will be properly established. He said that nurses from South India and Manipur have a reputation all over the country. Now, nurses from Barpur are also gaining fame outside the state.
The Chief Minister addressed the nursing students and faculty members, saying that they must always improve themselves through study and learning along with performing their duties. Teachers also need to keep themselves updated all the time. Only then it is possible to get satisfaction from one’s profession.
Dr Saha also said that in the past, the boys and girls of the state had to go outside the state for BSc Nursing. Currently, there is an opportunity to study BSc Nursing in the state itself. The state government has provided all kinds of modern facilities in this nursing college.
The current government of the state has prioritised healthcare. The current government is working with great importance in all areas of health, education, and communication.
He said that this government can understand the needs of the people. As a result, there is no need for any kind of agitation for any kind of demand.
The Chief Minister also said to the nursing students that to be a good student, first of all, it is necessary to be a good person. It is necessary to be by the side of people always. He wished the students a bright future.
The Principal of Agartala Government Nursing College, Maitreyi Choudhury, delivered the welcome speech at the event.
Professor Dr. Ganga Prasad Prasain, Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University, also delivered a speech at the event.
Professor (Dr.) Anupam Kumar Saha, Dean of Agartala Government Medical College, Dr. Anjan Das, Director of Health and Family Welfare and Disease Prevention Department, and Dr. Supriyo Mallick, Director of Health Services, were also present at the event.
Dr. Supriya Mallick delivered the closing remarks at the event.
