Dr. Abhishek Bhattacharjee, a young man from Amarpur under Gomati District of Tripura, has excelled in a national exam, bringing glory to his hometown.
Dr Bhattacharjee secured the 83rd rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Combined Medical Services examination.
He appeared for the written examination of the UPSC Combined Medical Services in July 2023. Later, he was called for an interview in October. On Friday night, he checked the UPSC website and learned that he had secured the 83rd rank.
Dr Bhattacharjee is the son of Arun Bhattacharjee, a teacher under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, and Nupur Bhattacharjee. He studied from class 1 to 10 at the South Amarpur Town Higher Secondary School, a prestigious school in Amarpur. After completing the Madhyamik examination, he studied science at Umakant Academy in Agartala.
He went on to earn his MBBS degree from the Government Medical College and GB Pant Hospital in Agartala in 2023. He is currently working as an intern doctor at the GB Hospital in Agartala.
Dr Bhattacharjee told the media that he had begun preparing for UPSC exams while he was still studying at the Agartala Medical College. He decided to take the Combined Medical Services examination when the UPSC released the notification for the exam in 2023. He passed the exam on his first attempt and secured the 83rd rank in the country.
He also said that he learned about his UPSC result on Friday night after finishing his shift at the hospital. He then visited the UPSC website to confirm the news.
Dr Bhattacharjee is the first person from the Amarpur district to pass a UPSC exam. His success has been met with great joy by his friends, family, and former teachers.
