A meeting of the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Swanidhi Yojana and the National Urban Livelihoods Mission was held at the Town Hall in Agartala on Wednesday. The meeting was organized to mark the completion of two years of the governing body of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC).
Inaugurating the meeting, the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Deepak Majumder, said the corporation has taken various plans for the welfare of street vendors in Agartala. There are now 2,738 street vendors in the AMC area. Street vendors are being given loans of Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 50,000 through the Pradhan Mantri Swanidhi Yojana.
Talking about the vision, The Mayor said, the AMC has taken the initiative to build a “New Agartala”. With this aim, the corporation is constructing new roads, repairing old roads, renovating old and abandoned ponds. In addition, efforts are being made to renovate the city’s sewers, electrification, clean up garbage from house to house, open gyms, and expand the availability of drinking water.
In the meeting, the Deputy Mayor of AMC, Manika Das Dutta, said the corporation has taken various steps to improve the socio-economic status of street vendors.
In the meeting, other speakers included the Chairperson of the Central Zone of AMC, Ratna Dutta. The welcome speech was delivered by the Additional Municipal Commissioner of AMC, Mohammad Sajjad P. Among others, Mayor-In-Council Sampa Sen Sarkar, Mayor In Council Himani Debbarma, other councilors, and officials from various banks and departments were present.
In the meeting, a cheque of Rs. 50,000 was given to street vendors from State Bank of India (SBI), TGB and PNB under the PM Swanidhi Yojana. Besides, a cheque of Rs. 20,000 was given to street vendor Uttam Kumar Rudrapal from UCO Bank.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s autographed identity card of the Pradhan Mantri Swanidhi Yojana was given to street vendors Pradip Saha and Nandadulal Acharya. In addition, street vendors Sushant Karmakar, Shubh Mallick, and Ranjit Das were awarded certificates and mementos for their success in digital transactions.
In the meeting, exhibition stalls were opened by State Bank of India, Tripura Gramin Bank, UCO Bank, Punjab National Bank, Health Department, and Labour Department.
The health department provided free homeopathic treatment to 51 people and allopathic treatment to 65 people and provided free medicine. Ayushman Bharat Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana cards were given to 3 people. Aava cards were given to 45 people. E-labour cards were distributed by the Labour Department to 27 people. 405 new street vendors were registered by the Agartala Municipal Corporation.
