Riyad Hussain brought Tripura back into the fight Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy at Guwahati with his brilliant bowling on Saturday. The second day’s play will be crucial in deciding who would dominate the match. If Tripura’s batsmen can turn things around on Sunday, then Tripura will be back in the match to exert pressure on Andhra Pradesh. Otherwise, it will face the fourth defeat. Andhra Pradesh is currently 14 runs ahead.

Today, Andhra Pradesh managed to score 120 runs in reply to Tripura’s 106 runs. Tripura’s Riyadh Hussain took 5 wickets.

Tripura won the toss and elected to bat first. They started well, putting on 37 runs for the opening partnership. But then, the Tripura camp collapsed. They were bowled out for 106 runs in 47.2 overs.

The two openers, Somraj Dey (4 fours, 22 runs) and Dibyajyoti Pal (3 fours, 22 runs), played well. For the team, Sujit Rishi Das remained unbeaten on 20 runs (4 fours) after coming in at number 11. No other batsman in the team could reach double digits.

For Andhra Pradesh, Aarchitapuram Walakullapppa took 5 wickets for 31 runs, N Rajesh took 3 wickets for 30 runs, and V P S Reddy took 2 wickets for 14 runs.

In reply, Andhra Pradesh was under pressure from the start of the innings due to Riyadh Hussain’s destructive bowling. At one point, they were 7 wickets down for 37 runs. In that situation, C Shoham Reddy and M Toshit Yadav put up a resistance and brought the team back into the match. The two batsmen added 79 runs for the eighth wicket in 128 balls. Shoham scored 44 runs (6 fours) in 74 balls, while Yadav scored 34 runs (5 fours) in 75 balls.

Andhra Pradesh managed to score 120 runs in 39.3 overs. For Tripura, Riyadh Hussain took 5 wickets for 37 runs, and Sujit Rishi Das took 3 wickets for 22 runs.

On Sunday morning, Tripura will be looking to their batsmen to turn things around.
