Tripura finished second in the National Yogasana Competition on Friday. The State team undoubtedly achieved great success in this year’s national event as Yogasana players of the State won a total of 18 medals. The medal tally included four gold medals and six silver medals, and won the runner-up title at the national level with 104 points, just behind the host West Bengal in terms of points.

It is to be noted that the three-day National Yogasana Competition held at the Sindhu Kanu Indoor Stadium in Durgapur, West Bengal from December 27. The event was concluded today. Six new national-level judges from Tripura were honored in this competition. In addition, four members from Tripura have been nominated as functional members in the All India Yoga Federation.

According to local yoga experts, the role of the training program before going to the national event is undeniable behind the success of the Tripura team this time.

The state sports association thanked all of the athletes and sponsors, including Shyamsundar Kong Jewellers, for their contributions to the team’s success.

Individual medalists included:

  • 8 to 14 Years Sub-Junior Girls: Dhriti Debnath (Gold), Shrestha Das (Silver), Tanmoy Sarkar (Silver), Debangkar Bhadra (Bronze)
  • 14 to 18 Years Junior Girls: Pratibha Singh (Silver), Rima Begum (Bronze), Debabardhan Kundu (Gold), Rajdeep Pal (Silver)
  • 18 to 24 Years Senior Women: Susmita Debnath (Bronze), Sourav Ghosh (Gold), Shubhrojit Bhumik (Bronze)
  • 24 to 30 Years Senior Women: Priyanka Sen (Silver), Madhab Debnath (Gold)
  • 30 to 40 Years Masters Women: Purvi Das (Bronze), Choyon Debnath (Bronze)
  • 40 to 50 Years Masters Women: Sutapa Roy (Bronze), Subhash Debnath (Bronze)
  • 50 to 60 Years Masters Men: Harishankar Dutt (Silver)
