The Northeast India Classical Powerlifting Championship, which started on January 5 and will conclude on January 7 in Silchar, witnessed a stellar performance by Tripura players who bagged 12 medals, including a gold, in various categories.
Anupama Saha was the star of the show as she clinched the gold medal in the women’s 84kg+ category, lifting a total of 345 kg.
She was followed by four other women from Tripura who secured silver medals in their respective categories. They are Simran Akhtar (47kg), Nandita Sutradhar (57kg), Lakshmi Rani Sarkar (76kg), and Tanushree Pal (84kg).
The men’s team also did not disappoint as they brought home five silver and two bronze medals.
The silver medalists are Joy Pal (74kg), Amarjit Das (83kg), Shib Shankar Sen (93kg), Kallol Das Roy (105kg), and Palash Shil (120kg+).
The bronze medalists are Swarup Roy Barman (83kg) and Priyatosh Das (120kg).
Dulal Karmakar, the coach of the state team, expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the players and praised them for their hard work and dedication.
He said that the championship was a good opportunity for the players to showcase their talent and gain exposure at the national level.
He also thanked the Tripura Powerlifting Association for providing the necessary support and facilities for the players.
